Who We Are

Faculty Relations serves as the planning, policy advising, and administration office for teaching and research faculty, librarian and archivist faculty, and academic administrators. Faculty Relations report to the Provost and Vice-President Academic on all academic matters and jointly to the Vice-President, People Equity and Inclusion on matters related to equity and faculty experience.

About the Role

The Labour and Employee Relations Advisor is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the SFUFA collective agreement and related policies and procedures. The role provides information and advice on collective agreement interpretations and applications, as well as issues such as conflict resolution, performance management, the disciplinary process, and responses to grievances. The Labour Relations Advisor participates in assigned collective agreement negotiations with the Faculty Association and supports the collection, generation and analysis of the information required for grievances, arbitrations, and negotiations.


Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource and training towards the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, or other relevant discipline, and three years of related experience in labour relations, or an equivalent level of education, training, and experience.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including well developed conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong ability to interpret and apply collective agreements and associated policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
