Our Employment Law team in the GVA provides employers with holistic HR and legal advice to attract, manage, retain and engage their people and create practical solutions to complex and challenging workplace issues.

KPMG Law LLP is looking for a confident, experienced, disciplined, and self-motivated Employment and Labour Law Associate.

The Senior Associate, Employment & Labour Law provides practical employment and labour advice and risk assessments to enhance our ESG service offerings, develop client-facing solutions that incorporate health and safety, privacy, human rights, labour relations, modern slavery and pay equity laws and enable the implementation of HR transformation projects.

What you will do

  • Be a trusted advisor, coach, and influencer to our clients on labour and employment-related risks, including privacy, data collection, health and safety, privacy, human rights, labour relations, modern slavery, and pay equity.
  • Work with clients to understand the complex issues, risks and opportunities involved in managing the workplace, and to develop and implement practical responses to embed within their processes and systems.
  • Understand and articulate the client’s strategy, challenges, and opportunities with respect to human rights and social impact.
  • Support our clients in creating a safe, accessible and inclusive work environment.
  • Develop and implement policies, programs, training and initiatives aligned with our client’s HR transformation projects and business needs.
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging areas relating to workplace risk, human rights and culture.

The successful candidate will be highly entrepreneurial, with excellent academic credentials and attention to detail, and will be expected to deliver timely, high-quality legal advice.

What you bring to the role

  • A bachelor of Law (LLB) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) is required.
  • 5+ years of employment and labour law experience, including health and safety, human rights and privacy
  • Be a member of good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia or can become an active member at the time of hire.
  • Have demonstrated excellent advocacy, conflict resolution, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Comfortable in a growth environment focusing on strategic and operational activities.
  • Ability to develop strong client relationships, gain credibility, and be viewed as a trusted advisor.
