We have up to 300 positions available for harvest workers on Banana, Avocado, Mango, and Papaya Farms in Atherton/Mareeba/Tolga regions in QLD. Work is due to start in Early July 2024, with Various intakes throughout, Until June 2025. Work is expected to go on for up to 6 to 9 months. You will be paid as a Level 1, Casual Employee under the Horticultural Award 2020 (MA000028). Hourly or Piece Rates may apply. There may be an opportunity to undertake training and upskilling in this role, which can allow your remuneration to increase as per the levels in the Horticultural Award

This position requires the availability for shift work over a 7-day roster. Minimum of 30 hours a week, 7.00 am-4.00 pm though at times this may change due to the seasonal needs of the business.

The position is for a Harvest worker and will include but not be limited to tasks such as Humping Bananas, general Banana farm work, and Picking and Packing Avocados, Mangoes, and Papayas. Please note that random drug & alcohol testing may be conducted. Applicants must address the selection criteria & all claims against this need to be substantiated. Brief description of duties involved:

  • Banana Humping ā€“ Humpers cut the banana bunch from the tree and carry them to a trailer, typically working in teams of two to ensure the bunches of bananas are removed without being damaged.
  • Work involves reaching above your head to cut bunches or catching bunches of up to 80kgs, making ā€œhumpingā€ one of the most strenuous jobs on the farm.
  • Banana paddock work, de-suckering dieseling, stringing and
  • Banana shed work, packing, sorting to meet store requirements, and need to be able to meet minimum working speeds after training.
  • For avocado farm work, you will be required to pick and pack Avocadoes
  • For mango farm work, you will be required to pick and pack Mangoes
  • For papaya farm work, you will be required to pick and pack papaya You will generally work 6 days per week from Monday t Friday and Most Sunday. You may be required to also work a Saturday from time to time depending on Farm requirements.

Selection Criteria: ā€¢ Attention to detail ā€¢ Good hand-eye co-ordination ā€¢ Ability to follow detailed instructions ā€¢ Good Physical fitness with very high endurance, able to stand for long periods of time ā€¢ Ability to work continuously at a high level of concentration ā€¢ Ability to work in all weather conditions for long periods of time ā€¢ Ability to Carry heavy loads for long periods of time ā€¢ Applications from outside the area must be able to show commitment to moving to the location for the duration of employment
