Senior Farm Hand Turf Production

We are looking for an experienced full-time farmhand to join our close-knit team at Pinnaroo in the SA Mallee. You will become a key part of our leading turf enterprise alongside helping with the broadacre, where we pride ourselves on creating an opportunity for everyone to grow. 

We have over 60ha of lawn, watered by centre pivots, growing multiple varieties using the latest in on-farm management technologies. 

This role is critical to the success of the business. You will be actively involved in all aspects of turf production; especially plant and soil health. Tasks undertaken in this role will include input to fertiliser plans, chemical spraying,  plant and soil health maintenance, and trial research.  The role comes with a vehicle for work use.

As a part of this role you will be encouraged to undertake further training to maintain up-to-date of the latest turf industry research, development, production and farm business safety.  Attractive salary package based on the applicants skills & experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties, responsibilities and tasks include: (please contact for full description & job details)

  • Operate irrigation systems, turf tractors, mowers, aerators and harvesters.
  • Monitoring of plant health, including disease and pests.
  • Keep accurate production and business records. 
  • Trialling of new lawn varieties, turf chemicals and technologies. 
  • Will become one of the accredited AusGAP-certified representatives for our farm 
  • Provide seasonal support to the dryland cropping enterprise as required.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Experience in the horticultural or broadacre industry
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to work cooperatively within a team environment
  • Be confident to use app technology on iPad and iPhone for apps such as FieldNET. 

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • A certificate (or higher) in production horticulture or an associated field
  • Have an understanding of the importance of biosecurity within a horticultural operation
