Reporting to the Director, Employee Relations and Job Evaluation, the Administrative Support Officer is responsible for the organization of the office and provision of administrative and secretarial support to the Director, Employee Relations and Job Evaluation Division and staff in the Employee Relations Unit.
The Administrative Support Officer is responsible for preparing complex documents and materials, organizing the physical and electronic files used by the divisional staff and arranging travel, events and meetings for the Director and Employee Relations staff. This Division handles a high volume of sensitive and confidential matters, and the Officer supports senior professional staff with the delivery of programs and services. The incumbent is required to act independently and exercise considerable judgement in responding to requests and knowing when to seek guidance and direction on a wide array of divisional matters. The Administrative Support Officer is also responsible for administrative duties including office organization, maintenance of equipment, ensuring the availability of materials and supplies, file management, receiving phone calls, faxes, and correspondence, maintaining leave and attendance files for the Director, the Relations Unit staff and other related responsibilities for the Division.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a High School diploma; along with one (1) year of related office experience. Secretarial Training (Certificate or Diploma) is considered as an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
