The Opportunity
The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is one of the most comprehensive maritime education, training and research organizations in the world. The AMC offers within one organization an academic research, higher education and vocational education training institute in the maritime sector that covers: seafarer training, maritime engineering, and maritime business. The AMC’s National Centre for Ports and Shipping (NCPS) delivers specialist degrees in the Nautical, Marine Engineering and Maritime Electronics and Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certificates of competence up to Ship’s Master, Chief Engineer, and Electro Technical Officer levels.
This is a teaching focused position. The position will involve teaching and scholarship, consultancy, and administrative duties as a Lecturer at the Australian Maritime College as part of the College of Sciences and Engineering. Teaching duties include conducting lectures, tutorials, training sessions, workshops, seminars, and associated assessments for programmes including Certificate of Competencies specifically for marine engineer officers, the Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Engineering) and other maritime related ship and shore based undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
You will be required to contribute to the design, development, implementation, and review of modern and innovative Maritime Training programmes, flexible delivery and assessment (including e-learning), and RPL/articulation arrangements. While the position is based in Launceston, duties may not be restricted to the marine engineering faculty and may involve work in any area of the College, other Tasmanian locations as well as interstate and internationally.
Key Accountabilities:
- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Co-ordinate and/or conduct lectures, tutorials, practical classes, workshops, field excursions and consultation including third party partners (as applicable) and industry experts to deliver a high- quality program, both on-campus and online environments.
- Undertake unit coordination role in relevant ocean seafaring units.
- Develop teaching and learning resources, including teaching notes, unit outlines, workshop and tutorial material to support the conduct of scheduled classes, suitable for face-to-face and flexible delivery.
- Develop assessments and other assessment tasks and undertake marking of all assessments associated with the units taught and provide formative feedback to students in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills.
Your Application
To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate:
- Holding an AMSA recognised qualification as a Marine Engineer Class 1 (Motor) or a combined (Motor and Steam), meeting Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) “Lecturer Qualification Requirements.”
- Professional or industrial experience at managerial level in the maritime sector relevant to the position.
- Proven competency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs or equivalent.
- An ability to work as part of a team with limited supervision to demanding timelines.
Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of $112,634 comprising base salary of $96,268 plus 17% superannuation.
