Job Summary

We are looking for a Business Development Manager (BDM) who will be responsible for leading the company’s efforts to expand relationships and win projects in the federal government. The BDM is responsible for achieving sales quota and securing new strategic accounts for the DCI business.

The BDM represents the entire range of company products and services to customers, while leading the business development effort with new customer prospects.

The BDM focuses on the developing relationships at high levels in the targeted customers organization to facilitate sales of Distech solutions and offerings. The BDM reports to the Director of Business Development.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Sole focus on federal / government business development activities
  • Create and lead the strategy for pursuing federal government projects
  • Establishes productive, professional relationships with key personnel in new customer accounts.
  • Coordinates the involvement of company personnel, including support, service, and management resources, in order to meet customers’ expectations.
  • Meets assigned targets for profitable sales volume and strategic objectives in assigned markets.
  • Increases market penetration in assigned markets by securing new customers and expanding the scope of the existing owner accounts where applicable.
  • Manages a pipeline of opportunity by qualifying and assessing potential customers and opportunities to achieve assigned sales quota.
  • Proactively leads strategic account planning process for targeted opportunities and customers.
  • Leads solution development efforts that best address customer needs, while coordinating the involvement of all necessary company personnel.

Accountabilities and Performance Measures

  • Achieves assigned sales quota in designated markets.
  • Meets assigned expectations for profitability.
  • Achieves strategic customer objectives defined by company management.
  • Completes strategic customer account plans that meet company standards.
  • Maintains high customer satisfaction ratings that meet company standards.
  • Completes required training and development objectives within the assigned time frame.

Organizational Alignment

  • Reports to the Director of Business Development.
  • Enlists the support of sales specialists, implementation resources, service resources, and other sales and management resources as needed to support the sales process.
  • Closely coordinates company executive involvement with customer management.
  • Works closely with Operations Team representatives to ensure competitive and profitable proposals are presented to customers, and to ensure customer satisfaction and problem resolution during project implementation.

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

  • Four (4) years University or College degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of strategic sales experience in a business-to-business sales environment.
  • Experience selling in the federal government space; security clearance is a plus
  • Exceptional written, oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle various priorities.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Personal computer proficiency.

Job Requirement and working conditions

  • This position may require travel up to 40%.

  • This position may require the employee to maintain a home-based office.
