Drill and Blast Technician (Fly-In Fly-Out) Job Details:

Reporting to the Open Pit Engineering Coordinator, you will be part of the Engineering Department. You will perform good engineering practices in terms of drill & blast design as well as end of period reporting. This role also includes QA/QC compliance for all processes linked to the drilling and blasting operation and the general drill and blast procedures. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Create drill & blast layouts for the open pits mostly & potentially the underground mine;
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure compliance and quality of execution;
  • Keep track of all the drilling and blasting performances through data reporting and databases;
  • Assist the planners for short- and long-term planning of drill & blast activities;
  • Evaluate in-situ performance and adjust drill & blast parameters accordingly;
  • In collaboration with the Geology department, perform dilution, drilling and blasting performance analysis;
  • Provide mine operations with different data & analysis that can help increase productivity and reduce costs;
  • Provide explosives and blasting accessories estimates for the yearly sealift order.

Qualifications

  • College Diploma in Mine Engineering or similar field of expertise;
  • 3-4 years’ experience in the mining industry;
  • 1 year of experience as a drill and blast technician;
  • Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, AutoCAD and mine design/planning software;
  • Knowledge of the Deswik software is considered an asset.

Note that the official working language at Meliadine is English.

Your Work Schedule:

  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest;
  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
