We are currently looking for an Electrician to join our Field Operations, Metro (Underground) team in a Temporary position.

Accountabilities:

  • As a member of the Metro Customer Operations (Underground) team, you will perform all aspects of installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical plant on the Transmission/Distribution System (e.g., reclosers, breakers, transformers, controls, underground power systems, switches, communication system, etc.). You may be required to travel to other Nova Scotia Power sites throughout the province as needed.
  • You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of headquarters, and you will be available for after hour emergency service restoration, including rotational standby duty if required.

What skills will make you successful?

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • Certification as a Journeyperson Industrial Electrician with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience with troubleshooting electrical equipment is required. Consideration may be given to those individuals who hold Certification as a Construction Electrician.
  • You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience terminating and working with medium voltage (2,400 to 69,000 VAC) cables is an asset.
  • Previous experience with Transmission/Distribution systems is an asset.
  • You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver’s abstract satisfactory to NSPI.

Consideration may be given to members of an Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship program if no qualified candidates apply.
