Our client spans all aspects of the value chain, from cattle stations and feedlots, to farming and processing, as well as sales and marketing. The Farm Manager’s role will be looking after approx. 6050ha. which consists of 5500ha of dry land farming and 550ha of flood irrigated crops, predominately growing grain, silage and hay.

Core responsibilities

You will be accountable for ensuring all farming operations, relevant reporting, and budgetary financial requirements meet a high standard, while leading a team to ensure best practice procedures are always maintained across all aspects of the business.

• Leadership and development of staff
• Developing and maintaining beneficial relationships with key suppliers, partners and customers
• Ensuring cropping programs fulfil critical commodity supply (i.e., hay, silage for station requirements)
• Be proactive in seasonal management of forage cropping to match feed pool changes
• Ensure irrigation systems are utilised to maximum efficiency where appropriate
• Management and accountability of budgets and P&L
• Reporting of paddock and crop conditions to management
• Working alongside the Station and Regional Manager to operate as an integrated unit
• Ensuring the highest standards are upheld in terms of crop quality
• Responsible for the creation and execution of work program and crop rotation throughout the year
• Capital and project management
• Ensuring all work practices and processes are consistent and in line with Company workplace Health & Safety Guidelines

The successful candidate will be able to address the following criteria:

• Outstanding leadership and people management skills
• Extensive experience in intensive farming operations including summer and winter crops
• Knowledge on innovation and advanced farming practices will be highly desirable
• Experience with flood irrigation is an essential part of the role
• Demonstratable experience in the creation and execution of key projects and strategic initiatives
• Chemical certificates
• Ability to manage and develop a diverse and inclusive team
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Current driver’s licence
• Other licenses or willingness to obtain e.g. forklift, HR truck license, confined space & working at heights, first aid
