Essential Functions:
Supervises urban forestry related work, including plants maintenance and tree and shrub removal
Oversees programs and activities for the department
Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel

UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION
Prepares reports and completes special projects
Enforces safety procedures to ensure safe operation of equipment and employee safety
Inspects completed work, and consults with staff to discuss problems, procedures and work assignments
Schedules preventive maintenance and repair of equipment and tools
Supervises multiple work crews in the trimming, treating, felling, transplanting and spraying of trees and shrubs
Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning the operation and use of equipment and chemicals, and removal of damaged limbs and branches
Plans and schedules nursery tree and shrub maintenance operations and activities
Evaluates operations for compliance to standards and regulations, and recommends modifications and improvements to achieve objectives and goals
Prepares bid specifications for the purchase of equipment, machinery and chemicals
Creates and analyzes daily reports for accuracy, effectiveness, service quantity and quality, response time and to insure compliance with codes, regulations and ordinances
Performs related work
Minimum Requirements
Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 70 pounds
Lifts and carries items weighing over 70 pounds in a team setting
Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Agriculture
Forestry
Park Management
Related field
Two years of forestry, forest ranger, or park management experience, including one year of supervisory experience
Other Minimums:
Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must be on 24 hour call
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, but must include one year of supervisory experience
Special Requirements:
Must be certified as a Pesticide Applicator in the State of Kentucky or obtain within one year of employment (KRS 217B)
Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain within six months of employment
