You’ll love working here…….

As our Heavy Equipment Technician, you’ll play an integral role in performing major diagnostics, major repairs and servicing, and preventative maintenance for all off-road equipment in fleet with minimal supervision. You’ll close the loop by completing the required reports and documentation. You are responsible for providing the highest quality of service and complying with the company’s established policies and procedures including procurement of parts and materials. This position may be responsible for developing and coaching apprentices.

What’s in it for you……

We’re a growing business in an exciting industry, and we’re a family. This is a full-time, permanent position paying $50.96 and all overtime is double time. We offer a competitive compensation package, which includes full health and dental, plus a company sponsored RRSP plan of $3.50/hour. We promote continued education by providing frequent in-house OEM training to keep you up to date with advancing technology.

With options to work 14/14 shifts you can achieve a work/life balance while taking advantage of an incredible opportunity to maximize earnings.

You’re going to have an amazing feeling of fulfilment when your efforts drive us to become each customer’s first choice for equipment, parts, and service.

Success looks like this ……

  • “Service First”. It’s our company slogan and you are driven to support external and internal customers with exceptional solutions. You’ll recognize that our customers’ livelihoods depend on the service they receive from our team.
  • Certification. You have done the hard work and training required to earn certification as a Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician and you’re ready to apply all that you have learned to make Great West Equipment your customers’ first choice.
  • Critical Thinking. You cut to the chase by collecting and examining technical information and make decisions on what is relevant in order to pinpoint issues with mechanical systems. You will have an in-depth understanding of diagnostic tools, how to access product information, and you’ll be proficient in providing solutions to problems in a timely manner with minimal assistance. As well you will thrive on the challenge of troubleshooting and possess the ability to read various system diagrams
  • Experience. Including your apprenticeship, you have a minimum of 5 years’ experience with off-road heavy equipment. Knowledge of Volvo equipment systems and repairs would be an asset. We expect that you will have basic knowledge of computer applications, you are committed to continuous learning, and you have a strong technical background and the capability to communicate effectively with other technicians, customers and supervisors regarding parts and service. The language required for this work is English.
  • Mentorship. Listen actively and perform competence analysis of apprentice technicians. Identify areas for them to improve and provide on the job training to assist in their development.
  • Safety Minded. First and foremost – you work safely, following all safety programs and procedures – every time. We have adopted best practices when developing our systems and procedures and you’ll become a champion for consistently staying in the lines. Working at customers’ sites means that you’ll also need to learn and follow their safety programs.
  • Organization. This is a detail-oriented position and you have already developed personal systems for organizing your work, ensuring you are prepared with information, parts and specialty tooling prior to attending a worksite.
  • Mobile and Flexible. Work may take place in the field at mine sites, logging sites, construction sites or pipelines in the Yukon. Occasionally, we may require you to work at one of our other branches located in Fort St John, Prince George, Terrace, Williams Lake, Campbell River, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Vernon or Cranbrook, B.C.
