Job Overview:

Human Resources Generalist performs a range of duties supporting managers, employees and the HR Team. The duties consist of compensation and benefits, health and safety, policies, employee relations, training and development, talent acquisition and other HR programs. As a trusted professional partner, the Human Resources Generalist consults and provides resolutions in the above areas to ensure profitable business operations. Additionally, in this role you will play a key role delivering the skilled trades apprenticeship program. It is crucial that our Human Resources Generalist promote a positive company image through safety, quality, consistency, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

Human Resources & Administration 35%*

  • Maintain all personnel records, including: apprenticeship records, all actions related to the employment relationship, all data is entered into ADP Workforce Now, and all relevant original documents are also kept on file as determined in the document retention policy
  • Accountable for providing detailed monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
  • Accountable for all data integrity in the Human Resources department including maintaining current and historical human resource records, ensuring fast and easy access to all documents and data
  • Monitor, track and report on Human Resources-related statistics.
  • Administer the Companies’ Apprenticeship Programs, assist employees with registration into the program, maintain the company’s apprenticeship hours tracking mechanisms and process wage changes related to Apprenticeship milestones.
  • Work with Managers to ensure timely processing of performance and salary reviews.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.

Health & Safety 20%*

  • Endorse a safety-first culture
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to H&S policies
  • Participate in the JHSC as needed
  • Work closely with H&S team for Return to work, WSIB claims, incident follow-up, etc.

Relationship Management & Communication 10%*

  • Coach and guide managers through the progressive discipline process to address performance that does not meet Company expectations, including creation of letters of reprimand and performance improvement plans
  • Maintain a confidential, friendly and approachable demeanour, ensuring employees feel comfortable discussing any and all aspects relating to their employment
  • Provide Executive team, Managers and Supervisors with advice and support relating to the full lifecycle of the employment relationship
  • Ensure regular, positive communication with employees, fostering a positive work culture
  • Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs

Employee Engagement 10%*

  • Develop strong cultural awareness and employee engagement in an effort to increase retention and recruitment, including: planning and coordinating employee engagement initiatives (such as surveys, education sessions, department activities, corporate challenges)
  • Optimize and enhance employee experience
  • Participate in the Social Committee

Recruitment, Onboarding & Training 10%*

  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition Manager to position the company as a preferred employer as well as create accurate and detailed job descriptions and job targets
  • Responsible for new hire orientation and education on RRSP and Benefits plans
  • Process new hire paperwork and add new hires to ADP Workforce Now

Compensation, Payroll & Benefits 10%*

  • Expedite processing of all new hire packages, ensuring timely completion for payroll submission
  • Act as a resource for payroll and advise on all pay matters (employee status, pay entitlements, changes to pay, employment legislation and compliance)
  • Responsible for benefits enrollment and plan administration

Employment Law 5%*

  • Keeps abreast of legislative changes affecting Human Resources
  • Consults legal issues ensuring compliance with provincial and federal laws

Miscellaneous

  • Always conduct oneself in a professional manner in alignment with Company values, including but not limited to language use, attire, and workmanship
  • In accordance with Company policy and relevant employment legislation, overtime and work outside of regular hours, and being on call may be required at the discretion of the company
  • All other duties as assigned

*The percentages listed are estimated time allocated for each area in a 40-hour work week. Please note: this is only an estimation, and as demands of the company change, these percentages may also change over time with no advance notice.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years’ broad Human Resources experience in a generalist role, with strong preference for experience in manufacturing and/or multi-trade organizations
  • CHRP Designation in progress
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries / complaints and exercise sound judgement, discretion, and tact
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion at all times in all situations
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS
  • In-person role: Valid license with access to a reliable vehicle for traveling to facilities in the Elmira, and Stratford areas as time will be split between the facilities
  • Able and willing to travel in Canada and the USA, with an active passport
  • Would be considered an asset to have multi-site / multi company experience
  • Knowledge of relevant employment legislation including payroll, WSIB, OHSA, Employment Standards Act in Ontario
  • Highly accountable for personal and team results, takes initiative
