Horizon Health Network in beautiful New Brunswick is looking for a Research Education Coordinator to join our team!

Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is seeking a Research Education Coordinator (REC) in support of the CANadian Consortium of Clinical Trial TRAINing (CANTRAIN), a national clinical trial training program. Its vision is to offer the best, certified and standardized clinical trials’ training and mentoring program across Canada.

The REC uses adult learning principles and instructional strategies to adapt, deliver, and evaluate CANTRAIN educational programs to enhance and promote clinical research competency, achieve high standards of regulatory compliance, and facilitate clinical research professional development activities.

The REC is responsible for the on-boarding and ongoing education of clinical research staff, students and clinician researchers, from novice to expert abilities, using the CANTRAIN clinical trial training streams learning pathways. Educational programming is expected to be variable in delivery mode and style, and sensitive to the role complexities found in a research hospital. The position requires well-developed communication skills and advanced clinical research skills.

Who you are

  • University level education (BA, BSc) in adult education, health sciences, public health, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing, implementing, presenting and evaluating educational programs, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Experience coordinating or managing clinical trials
  • Knowledge of relevant guidelines and regulations (i.e. ICH-GCP: Good Clinical Practices, TCPS2: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans)
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and hands on clinical research skills

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of clinical research
  • Knowledge of Health Canada and FDA Regulations, ICH-GCP Guidelines and other legislation/standards pertaining to research
  • Superior time management and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to coordinate and prioritize numerous activities related to each study
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a multidisciplinary team and/or framework
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite as demonstrated by testing and clinical trials software
  • Excellent written and spoken English required. French competence is an asset.

What you will do

Program Onboarding

  • Facilitate the onboarding/orientation of new users to the CANTRAIN platform.
  • Adapts, develops, coordinates, facilitates, and conducts CANTRAIN onboarding and orientation programs for new clinical research staff and other healthcare professionals involved in clinical research at the member institution.
  • Collaborates with institutional clinical research leadership to identify onboarding/orientation needs of staff and target learning outcomes.
  • Identifies relevant institutional guidelines, protocols, policy and procedures and adapts CANTRAIN onboarding/orientation materials in collaboration with key stakeholders.

Program Delivery

  • Develops, coordinates, facilitates, and deliver or facilitate the delivery of CANTRAIN curricula/learning pathways for all training streams at participating sites
  • Adapts CANTRAIN learning pathways to maximize uptake and effectiveness in local institutional context.
  • Promotes compliance with standards, guidelines, laws and requirements of regulatory agencies, credentialing agencies and professional organizations.
  • Fosters the development of teaching skills in others as well as support educational needs assessment.
  • Serves as a resource to all departments in the development of specific processes or training approaches to maintain compliance in the conduct of clinical research.

Program Improvement

  • Implements a consultation process to meet the needs of internal stakeholders and institutional strategic goals pertaining to clinical research education and training.
  • Performs needs assessment including gap from desired practice to actual practice and designs cost effective training and change management plan to meet organizational needs.
  • Provides feedback to CANTRAIN leadership to surface institutional concerns, needs or requirements for ongoing Platform improvement.
  • Develops measurable marketing strategies for CANTRAIN training streams.
