Overview

Position Summary:

The North Carolina and South Carolina State Government Affairs Leader represents the organization’s interest before all facets of state government and leads the local government engagement strategy. The Leader also supervises external contracted lobbyists. Together with the enterprise state government leader, they are responsible for directing and implementing a policy strategy for the state, engaging and educating teammates in a culture of advocacy, and building relationships with elected officials and government agency leaders.

Position Accountabilities: * Represents Advocate Health to appropriate organizations or coalitions to establish and maintain contacts to aid and foster government relations activities.

  • Works in close collaboration with the Federal Affairs and Government Policy leaders and relevant internal functions.
  • Increases management and business unit understanding of, and participation in the policy-making and political process on behalf of AH.
  • Researches, monitors, analyzes, and evaluates legislation and regulation issues that may have an impact on AH to determine needs for action and recommend action to be taken.
  • Conducts legislative analysis on health care policy issues and summarizes and analyzes policy and program implementation documents.
  • Leads and mentors a team responsible for coordinating action at the local level with activities at the federal and state levels.
  • Supervises the Local/State Lead, aligning responsibilities and action with Enterprise Priorities and ensuring coordination within the Community and Social Impact Division.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field required
  • Master’s degree in health care, health care administration or business administration, or comparable educational and professional background highly preferred

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

  • Substantial demonstrated knowledge, expertise and experience in government relations activities at the community, local, state, and national levels.
  • Broad knowledge and thorough understanding of the trends and forces shaping the health care delivery system.
  • Experience in developing new enterprises and affiliations within the health care delivery system.
  • Experienced-based knowledge working with professional staff engaged in Academic/Research and Community-based medicine.
