This is a full-time permanent position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The Yukon Geological Survey acquires and disseminates geological and geohazard knowledge to support exploration; to inform resource and land management planning; to assist with infrastructure development; and to engage communities, schools and the public.
Reporting to the Head, Regional Geology, Yukon Geological Survey, this position is responsible for conducting original geoscientific research in Yukon by planning and carrying out detailed geological field studies of assigned areas, co-ordinating laboratory and other research studies, compiling and interpreting the results, preparing geological reports and maps for publication and for poster and oral presentations, and providing scientific advisory services to mineral explorers, First Nations, Yukon government and the public.

Essential Qualifications

- Ph.D or M.Sc. degree in Earth Sciences or related field with extensive experience conducting geoscience research;
- Planning and delivering geological field projects;
- Working with and leading multi-disciplinary research teams;
- Supervising field personnel;
- Using computer applications including database, graphic and GIS software;

Desired Knowledge, skills and suitability
The ideal candidate should have, and may be assessed on their:
- Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to build consensus and work with partners with a range of values and interests;
- Technical writing skills;
- Experience in project management;
- Expertise in sedimentology/stratigraphy, geothermal energy and/or geophysics will be considered an asset;
- Excellent communication skills, including an ability to present complex information to a non-technical audience;
- Ability to prioritize work in order to meet tight deadlines

Conditions of Employment: Valid Class 5 driver’s license, Pre-employment medical clearance
Job Requirements: Willingness to travel extensively within Yukon
