Responsibilities

Routine animal receiving, transportation, husbandry, and study procedures

• Provide food, water, cleaning and sanitation of pens for large animals
• Follows protocol to ensure the health and welfare of the animals in care
• Complete daily animal welfare checks, clinical obervations, study procedures and animal husbandry records
• Report and document any health issues and administer treatments, as necessary
• Assist veterinarians and/or research technicians to collect samples and adminster treatments
• Complete appropriate documentation records for all procedures
• Perform general stall, barn, and ranch cleaning and maintenance
• Provide transportation and perform receiving procedures for incoming animals including proper documentation
• Prepare pens and accessories for incoming animals
• Operate typical farm and mechanical equipment (e.g. drive tractor/loader, skid steer, trucks with stock or dump trailers, etc.). Must have prior training and experience and be able to back truck and trailers (bumper-pull or goose neck hitch).
• Repair or install fence (e.g. 4 wire with T-post, or Priefert steel corral panels)
• Maintain barn storage areas including feed and bedding storage

Qualifications

We are looking for the following from the Ranch Animal Care Technician:

• Desire to work with and care for animals on a daily basis
• Continuous effort toward contributing to a clean and safe working environment
• Ability and willingness to complete paperwork as needed
• Must be available to work weekends/ holidays on a rotating basis
• Willingness to work overtime when needed
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required for operating company vehicles
• Reliable transportation to drive to/from work at a somewhat remote location

This position requires that the Animal Care Technician be able to:

• lift up to 50-75 lbs and be physically able to handle supplies and equipment typically used in a ranch setting (e.g. hay bales, shaving bales, shovel soiled bedding from stalls)
• be comfortable working with animals in areas that may be wet, dirty, dusty, at ambient outdoor temperatures, and handle exposure to odors and occasional chemicals
• stand, walk, and perform physical labor throughout most of shift
• frequently bend, reach, push, pull, squat and lift

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities. This is an hourly, non-exempt position, with hourly rate starting between $19.00 – $21.50.
