Job Synopsis Must be energetic, organized. Must be able to solve cash register problems and debit errors, cashing out end of day, end of month.
Supervise and give directions to volunteers, retail floor staff and provide basic training at cash. Taking on Management responsibilities when necessary
Ideal candidate is a hard-working, reliable team player who can understand and carry out instructions with minimal supervision, has excellent customer service skills, and enjoys staying active on the job.
Full-time Retail Associate available to work alternate Saturdays, and 40 hrs/week. Understanding of Cash Registers

Challenges
Key Responsibilities • Cash register responsibilities i.e. – solving cash register problems and debit errors, cashing out end of day, end of month
- Supervise and give directions to volunteers, retail floor staff and provide basic training at cash. Taking on Management responsibilities when necessary
- Schedule the cashier and clerk coffee and lunch break so there is adequate floor coverage at all times
- Identify issues and trends; provide input to the Manager for reports to the Thrift Shop Board
- Consult with the Manager regarding cleaning to be done, concerns the volunteers or staff might bring to them and other needs as they arise
- Ensure compliance with safety standards
- Attend meetings and events as required
- Assist customers i.e. – answer questions, sell furniture, hold items,
- Keep shop clean and orderly
- Insure shop is well stocked – clothes, household, shoes, furniture, linens etc. Pricing and displaying of these items.
- Greet customers
- Open and close shop – (making sure signs on, doors locked/unlocked, customers gone). In charge of key for opening/closing of the shop and arming/disarming the building
- Ensure sale signs are posted
- And any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Thrift Shop Policies:
- Shifts are either 9:00 – 5:30, 9:30 – 6:00 or 12:00-8:30 (Please arrive at least 5 minutes before shift)
- Breaks – Half hour unpaid lunch break and 2 X 15 minute paid coffee breaks.
- Smoking – only in designated areas during scheduled breaks. (Southeast corner of parking lot near bin)
- Back room shopping – all items must be priced by either management or person(s) working in the department the item is from.
- Cell phones to be used during breaks only and in private areas. (i.e. not in lunchroom)
- Dress Code – Clothing must be clean and respectable. No short shorts. No revealing clothing. No jeans except on casual Fridays.
