Provide technical support and collaborate with the Business Development and M&A teams in the APAC region to analyze business opportunities and initiatives from a technical standpoint throughout the region, including China, Australia, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and others. Maintain and develop strong relationship with the business areas. Conduct Technical Due Diligence and provide capital expenditure (capex) estimations for wind farms, PV plants, and BESS projects. Compile, process and conduct the risk analysis of the technical information available and required for project assessments to ensure the consistent application of criteria when evaluating various investment options, thus facilitating the quick and proper selection of the best projects. As a Senior Lead Engineer, you will be involved in multiple concurrent analyses and actively participate in analyzing large portfolios. You will also be responsible for reviewing capex estimations from other team members as part of our internal procedures and providing any necessary technical support. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of internal processes and other corporate tools. As a Lead Engineer shall participate and provide guidance in all the transversal initiatives for the area improvement, such as capex calculation solution, internal procedures preparation or support in all the tools development.

Responsibilities * PROJECT TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT:

Define and execute the scope of the technical assessment, according to the internal practices of the potential new projects state: early development, advance development, ready to build, preconstruction, under construction, in commissioning or operational. Collaborating with the transversal engineering activity to supervise and support globally the M&A and Origination teams in the analysis (Due Diligence) of the business opportunities and initiatives of PV, Wind and BESS projects. Manage the initial engineering and design phase of projects analysis in all geographies where EDPR has presence. As part of it, the following tasks and steps will be performed to assess all the technical matters related the wind farm, PV plant or BESS projects and its relevant electrical infrastructures:

  • Perform the technical analysis of the available project documents.
  • Execute the project site visits and report.
  • Project assessment
  • General technical assessment, including location and physical connections.
  • Project layout and footprint assessment, including influence area, occupied lands, noise receptors, existent infrastructures interferences, as HVL, etc.
  • Environmental conditions assessment, as altitude, temperature, seismic, wind, etc.
  • Ground conditions assessment, including geology, geotechnical and hydrology.
  • Electrical system studies assessment, as shortcircuit study, load flow analysis, curtailment etc.
  • Permits and licenses technical assessment
  • Identify the global project administrative state, identifying the principal technical constraints and hazards for getting the final licenses and estimated deadlines.
  • WTG, PV and BESS TECHNOLOGY assessment
  • Coordinate with Technology teams the review of the project WTG model and PV capital equipment suitability.
  • Electrical Infrastructures design assessment
  • Coordinate the review of the project substation and interconnection substation designs, including the HV and MV equipment, the Integrated Control and Protection systems, metering, auxiliary.
  • Coordinate the review of the design of the High Voltage Line and materials technical specification.
  • Construction assessment/ BoP and BoS o Assess the structures foundation design.
  • Assess the MV collection system and LV design.
  • Assess the earthmovement required
  • For those projects in pre-construction or construction phases, and also for operational projects when applicable, it will be performed a technical assessment including Construction contracts and related warranties, QA/QC plans or Construction planning.
  • PROJECT PRE-DESIGN

Identify the technical upsides and levers that optimize the project, mitigating identified technical risks, reducing CAPEX and/or increasing the revenues. Execute the needed predesigns of the civil, mechanical and electrical infrastructures of the power plant to implement each of the levers.

  • CAPEX ESTIMATION

Prepare an accurate and optimum CAPEX estimation of the potential project or investment opportunity. Prepare the CAPEX estimation for the additional studied scenarios base on the executed pre-engineering.

  • RISK ASSESSMENT

Evaluate the technical risk of the project, identifying all the factors that could affect the development, design, construction and commissioning of the future power plant and assessing its probability potential consequences. Supporting and validating some other internal risk assessments conducted by the team. Support continuously the Business Development and M&A teams in the making decisions process about project acquisitions through all the APAC region.

  • PROJECT PLANNING ASSESSMENT

Assess the project master plan from the Vendor, considering the inputs related permitting from the Business Development area, and developing the own schedule for the engineering, procurement, and construction phases. Supporting and validating some other internal planning assessments conducted by the team.

  • CONTRACTS ASSESSMENT

Support the Legal, M&A and Business Development teams along the preparation of the Supplemental Purchase Agreements and Development Service Agreements, ensuring that all the agreed technical scopes and conditions are well covered. Supporting some other internal contract assessments conducted by the team.

  • TRANSVERSAL SUPPORT COORDINATION

Ensure the coordination of service provision from the Local E&C team and the different Technology areas, as Civil & Mechanical, Electrical & Control, PV Technology, BESS Technology, and BESS engineering. Coordinate the planned works and project information continuously and effectively to cross-functional teams, collaborate closely with various departments including M&A, Development, Origination, Procurement, Finance, Energy Assessment and O&M.

  • REPORTING

Produce the projects preliminary principal finding reports and the final Technical Due Diligence report including the technical assessment. Actively develop and manage reports to management by producing regular and frequent project status updates and other reporting documents.

  • PROJECT DUE DILIGENCE TENDERS

Prepare the RfPs for contracting the engineering and studies to external consultants. Review and evaluate the offers ensuring the selection of the best offer.

  • COORDINATION OF PROJECT TRANSFER: Lead the transfer of the acquired projects to the Local E&C Team, ensuring the delivery of the full package of the VDR technical information and the developed information along the project technical assessment and pre-engineering.
  • STANDARDIZATION

Follow the application of the common standards in the projects, supervising its adaptation to applicable local regulation, to avoid non justified deviations and maximize the investment efficiency with all the technical warranty needed.

  • COMPANY POLICY AND LEGAL COMPLIANCE

Understand and apply policies to prevent occupational hazards, environment and quality to ensure implementation and compliance on tasks under their responsibility.

13. EDPR INSTITUTIONAL REPRESENTATION

Represent EDPR to agencies and institutions, public and private, in matters relating to its jurisdiction to enforce the interests of EDPR.

Requirements

ACADEMIC LEVEL

  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited educational institution
  • A postgraduate will be valued

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 8-11 years combined of technical/engineering and construction analysis or management experience in the renewables energy industry

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong knowledge of Solar PV and Wind technologies, as well as relevant BOP and BoS engineering o Knowledge of BESS technology and BOP/BOS engineering is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HV electrical infrastructures projects
  • Knowledge of contracting Engineering Services and EPC’s regarding renewable energy projects (performance requirements, warranties, LD’s, etc.)
  • Knowledge of renewable energy infrastructures costs (engineering, equipment supply and construction)
  • Proficient knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite; high proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerBI required o Knowledge of engineering and market economics and design optimization o Knowledge of International technical normative

LANGUAGES

  • English
  • Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and others is a plus
