The Role 

BC Academy International School is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Secondary French Teacher to join our expanding KS3 program. The successful candidate will have the expertise to deliver engaging and interactive French language lessons, preparing students for GCSE and A-Level French. Native English or native French speakers are welcome to apply, provided they demonstrate a strong ability to teach French as a foreign language within the British curriculum framework.

Applicants must be native English speakers and have at least 3-5 years experience working in a British Curriculum school. This role is suitable for a current Head or Deputy Head of Department, or even an aspiring middle leader.

This role is not suitable for NQT/ECT teachers.

Early application is encouraged as interviews will be held on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and dynamic French lessons aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
• Develop and implement a French language curriculum for KS3, with progression into KS4 and KS5.
• Teach foundational and advanced language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening in French.
• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level French examinations, ensuring they excel in language proficiency and cultural understanding.
• Promote an appreciation of Francophone cultures, incorporating cultural knowledge into language instruction.
• Use interactive teaching strategies, including role-plays, multimedia tools, and authentic resources to enhance learning.
• Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support improvement.
• Organize and lead extracurricular activities, such as French clubs, language immersion days, or trips to Francophone regions.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages language acquisition and confidence in communication.
• Stay updated on best practices in language teaching and incorporate innovative methods to enhance lessons.
• Ensure compliance with inspection and accreditation standards, including UAE Ministry of Education and British Schools Overseas (BSO) guidelines.

Essential Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in French, Modern Languages, or a related field; a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification with QTS.
• Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a British curriculum school.
• Proven ability to teach French at GCSE and A-Level, with a track record of successful student outcomes.
• Strong fluency in French, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with the British National Curriculum (KS3-KS5) and relevant assessment frameworks.
• Proficiency in using technology and multimedia tools to enhance French language teaching.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan lessons, projects, and events effectively.

Desirable Requirements

• Leadership experience, such as Head of Languages or involvement in curriculum development.
• A Master’s degree in Education, French, or Modern Languages.
• Experience developing new educational phases, such as establishing KS3 or KS4 language programs.
• Knowledge of inspection frameworks such as BSO, KHDA, or Ofsted, with experience in inspection preparation.
• Additional certifications in language teaching, such as DELF/DALF or TEFL.
• Experience working in an international, multicultural environment.
• Familiarity with modern pedagogical approaches, such as project-based learning and immersive language strategies
