Agriculture of the future will be digitally integrated at all stages of the value-chain, from understanding genetics and real-time monitoring of on-farm conditions, through to transport logistics and traceability. CSIRO and ANU are partnering to offer exciting opportunities for PhD students to work with scientists and engineers at the cutting edge of research using information science to address industry challenges, in the agricultural sector.
Students will work alongside leading research scientists and engineers in first-class facilities and will also have access to professional development opportunities to enhance their career development while building industry relevant skills and working on real-world problems.
The Digital Agriculture PhD Supplementary Scholarship is a top-up award supporting outstanding PhD candidates in science, engineering or technology where the focus of their research is on a collaborative project between CSIRO and ANU in the field of information science relevant to agriculture. Project topics
Below is a list of topics currently available under this scholarship program. Further information on the topics can be found at:
- Nutrient balance strategies to build soil carbon in farming systems
- Developing cutting-edge tools for 3D reconstruction of plant architecture
- Sensing the next step change in water productivity in dryland agriculture
- AI-powered monitoring of livestock health and welfare using multimodal sensor data
- Large language model (LLM) enhanced digital representation of smell for food manufacturing
Scholarship:$15,000 per annum top-up scholarship, plus a Research Support Allowance of $5,000 to fund incidentals including professional development and research-related travel (with approval)
Tenure: 3 years. One six-month extension may be possible with approval.
