Job Position: Band 5 Staff Nurse Job in UK with Visa Sponsorship
Company: NHS
Salary: From £31,049 – £37,796 per annum
Location: Worthing, West Sussex, UK
We’ve got an opening for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on our haematology ward at Worthing Hospital. It’s a 20-bed unit that’s part of the Sussex Cancer Centre, and we’re looking for someone who’s genuinely interested in cancer and haematology care.
This could work whether you’re newly qualified and want to build experience in oncology, or you’ve been nursing for a while and fancy specializing. Either way, you’ll get proper support – a supernumerary period to settle in, a mentor, practice educators, and help with completing your UKONS Systemic Anti-Cancer Passport.
You’ll be working alongside Clinical Nurse Specialists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and the wider haematology team. It’s a multidisciplinary setup where everyone pitches in to look after patients and their families during what’s often a really difficult time.
What you’ll be doing
Day-to-day, you’ll be caring for haematology patients on the ward – providing treatment, managing symptoms, supporting families, and working with the team to make sure everyone gets the care they need.
You’ll also be:
- Communicating with patients and families who might be dealing with complex diagnoses or difficult treatment decisions
- Explaining treatments, side effects, and care plans in a way that actually makes sense
- Keeping accurate records and updating systems like Chemo Care
- Supporting people through some really tough conversations – end-of-life care, failed treatments, that sort of thing
- Helping patients and their families find the right coping strategies and connecting them with counselling or complementary therapies when needed
- Getting involved in service improvements and contributing to how we develop cancer care across Sussex
What we’re looking for
You’ll need:
- Current NMC registration (UK nursing registration)
- Experience working in an NHS or UK healthcare setting – acute hospital experience is essential
- A degree in nursing or equivalent
- Competency in cannulation, venepuncture, and IV administration
- Decent IT and computer skills
It’d be great if you also have:
- Previous experience in haematology or oncology
- A mentorship qualification
- Chemotherapy training or equivalent
- Experience supervising junior staff
But honestly, if you’ve got the right attitude and the core skills, we can help you develop the rest.
What’s in it for you
- Competitive Band 5 salary (£31,049 – £37,796)
- Full training and development support
- Flexible working options where possible
- Access to staff networks and wellbeing programs
- A chance to work for one of the UK’s largest NHS trusts with a strong reputation for research and teaching
About visa sponsorship
Yes, we can sponsor visas under the Skilled Worker route if you meet the UK government’s requirements (including the £25,000 salary threshold and other criteria). If you’re already registered with the NMC in the UK, you’re welcome to apply. If you’re an internationally qualified nurse who needs sponsorship, we’re not currently hiring directly for those roles – but it’s worth checking our separate internationally qualified nurse adverts.
