Assistant Director of Food & Beverage - Open to Visa Sponsorship

Job Position: Assistant Director of Food & Beverage – Open to Visa Sponsorship
Company: Hyatt
Salary: $90,000 – $110,000, based on experience and qualifications
Location: Big Sur, CA, USA

sky meeting ocean, redwood forests towering above, mountains all around. That’s where we are—Alila Ventana Big Sur. We’re part of the Hyatt family, a Forbes Four-Star resort with Two Michelin Keys, but honestly? What makes us special isn’t just the awards. It’s the way we treat people—our guests, our team, everyone who walks through our doors.

We’re looking for someone who gets it. Someone who loves hospitality not because it’s a job, but because creating memorable experiences for people actually matters to them.

The Role

As Assistant Director of Food & Beverage, you’ll be the right hand to our F&B Director. Think of yourself as equal parts leader, problem-solver, mentor, and guest experience champion. You’ll oversee everything from our signature restaurant and bar to in-room dining and special events—making sure every detail is on point and every guest leaves happier than they arrived.

This isn’t a desk job. You’ll be out on the floor during service, talking to guests, supporting your team, and jumping in wherever you’re needed.

What You’ll Actually Do

Run the Show (Operationally Speaking)

  • Keep all our food and beverage outlets running smoothly—restaurant, bar, room service, events, the works
  • Work hand-in-hand with our culinary team on seasonal menus and beverage programs that wow people
  • Make sure we’re always up to code with health, safety, and licensing stuff (because nobody wants a surprise inspection gone wrong)
  • Back up your managers and lead by example when service gets intense

Handle the Numbers

  • Help manage budgets, control costs, and keep an eye on our P&L
  • Find smart ways to boost revenue without sacrificing quality
  • Build relationships with vendors who share our values and deliver great products
  • Make sure we’re pricing things right and running promotions that make sense

Lead and Lift Up Your Team

  • Mentor managers and team members—help them grow, challenge them, celebrate their wins
  • Coach people through the tough stuff and recognize them when they crush it
  • Make sure everyone’s trained properly and knows what excellent service looks like
  • Handle scheduling so we’re always staffed appropriately (but not burning people out)

Create Moments That Matter

  • Be visible during busy times—guests should see you, know you, feel taken care of by you
  • Actually read reviews and feedback, then do something about it
  • Personalize experiences when you can—remember someone’s anniversary, their favorite drink, whatever makes them feel seen

Think Bigger

  • Stay on top of what’s happening in the industry—what are luxury travelers expecting now?
  • Support our sustainability goals (local sourcing, less waste, doing things responsibly)
  • Work with other departments to make sure the whole guest experience feels connected

Who You Are

Experience-wise:

  • You’ve spent at least 5 years in food and beverage leadership, ideally in luxury resorts or fine dining
  • You’ve managed multiple outlets before and know what it takes to keep standards high across all of them
  • You understand the financial side—budgets, forecasting, labor costs, all of it
  • Bonus points if you’ve worked at a Forbes or Michelin-recognized property before
  • Food safety and beverage service certifications are a big plus

Personality-wise:

  • You’re a natural leader. People trust you, follow you, and want to do good work for you
  • You stay calm under pressure and can think on your feet
  • You’re detail-oriented but don’t lose sight of the big picture
  • You genuinely enjoy making people happy
  • You’re comfortable with tech—POS systems, management software, all the usual tools

Practically speaking:

  • You can lift 50 pounds when needed
  • Standing and walking for long stretches is no problem
  • You’re cool with a flexible schedule—nights, weekends, holidays are all part of the gig

What We Offer

Compensation:

$90,000 – $110,000 annually (depends on your experience)

Benefits:

  • Full Hyatt benefits—hotel discounts worldwide, wellness programs, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement
  • Daily meals on us
  • Gas stipend (because we’re kind of remote)

Immigration:

Yes, we’re open to sponsoring visas for the right person. We mean it.
