This position is located in the Pine Ridge Indian Health Center in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The Supervisory Licensed Professional Counselor-MH serves as the subject matter expert for the Division of Behavioral Health at Pine Ridge Service Unit. The purpose of the position is to provide clinical and administrative direction, organization and performance oversight of Behavioral Health administrative and clinical functions and oversight of staff for the Pine Ridge Service Unit and Kyle Clinic.

  • Behavioral Health Director assists the CEO, Clinical Director, as well as the Area Division of Behavioral Health with ongoing assessment of community behavioral health needs, the planning and implementing of a community oriented behavioral health program; Ensuring integration of best practice behavioral health concepts within Behavioral Health program and within service unit wide clinical services of Pine Ridge Service Unit.
  • Performs individual, marital/couples, family, and group psychotherapies for children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of acute and chronic mental health problems including depression, suicide ideation/attempts, bereavement, psychotic episodes, family conflicts, substance abuse or dependence, and trauma resulting from violence or abuses of emotional, physical, or sexual nature.
  • Supervises Behavioral Health staff and Behavioral Health supervisors – provides for the overall training, development and supervision of Behavioral Health Department staff. Plans and assigns work to Behavioral Health staff based on PRSU priorities and capabilities of employees. Evaluates Behavioral Health staff work performance.
  • Coordinates service provisions to patients and consults with professional colleagues as needed to promote optimal patient care. Utilizes knowledge of a wide variety of theories used in counseling and psychotherapy. Provides referral, intake, diagnostic, treatment, crisis intervention, and consultation services for mental health patients.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: have direct experience in supervising, monitoring, and directing the operations of a Behavioral Health Clinic and performing clinician duties such as diagnostic treatment, referral, crisis intervention, and consultation services for psychiatric patients in a hospital setting.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:

Do you possess a current, unrestricted U.S. State License as a Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health or equivalent?

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
