The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for several Biosecurity Officers to be part of our Biosecurity Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

There are 6-month part time contracts and casual positions to 30 June 2024 available.

The primary purpose of the Biosecurity Officer roles is to carry out biosecurity inspection activities and to engage with and educate travellers to Kangaroo Island. Biosecurity Officers are responsible for coordinating and undertaking field-based biosecurity surveillance to manage risks to Kangaroo Island posed by animal and plant pests and diseases.

The roles contribute to delivering the agency’s priorities including assisting in the protection of Kangaroo Island’s primary industries.

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).

Requirements

  • Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive.
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
  • You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations.
  • Desirable qualifications or experience:
  • A tertiary qualification in Science, Agricultural Science, Biology or a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in risk management or the delivery of biosecurity inspection services
