POSITION SUMMARY
The Cultivation Associate is responsible for performing tasks independently and supports Hawthorne Gardening Company cannabis research conducted at KRS. This position works directly with cannabis plants on a daily basis. Responsibilities will span multiple segments of cannabis research and plant production including, but not limited to, Propagation, Cultivation, Fertigation, Integrated Pest Management, Quality, and the Analytical Laboratory. All tasks must be performed in accordance with any relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods, and Work Instructions. The Cultivation Associate reports directly to the R&D Cultivation Manager, and assists the Research Scientists on a daily basis.
CORE JOB DUTIES
Perform tasks with direction from the R&D Cultivation Manager and occasionally the Research Scientists:
Propagation (seeds and clones) and transplanting
Cultivation work – defoliating, pruning, harvesting, etc.
Fertigation – Preparing, sampling and verifying nutrient solution parameters
Cleaning and sanitation of cultivation, processing and prep areas
Processing dried or fresh cannabis material
Tracking inventory data related to plants or physical materials
Assist with work in other areas as directed
Comply with all facility SOPs, methods, and work instructions including gowning, sanitation, workplace safety, confidentiality, inventory traceability, sampling, communicating results or issues requiring attention.
Monitor plant health daily; complete associated digital forms, identify and communicate all observations and concerns to the R&D Cultivation Manager and Research Scientists.
Ensure compliance with inventory tracking of plants from propagation through to harvest using seed-to-sale software.
Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment.
Support employee safety, morale and productivity. Serve as a role model for Hawthorne core values.
Report any personnel and safety concerns or issues to management.
Perform additional duties as required.
JOB SKILLS
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a horticultural discipline; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties.
Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field (Horticulture, Plant Science, Biology etc.) is considered an asset.
Familiar with GMP/GPP/GDP and how they relate to the Canadian Cannabis Regulations.
Previous work experience within agriculture production or research is preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Moderate level of computer proficiency including Google suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc.).
Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and lift equipment or plants up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
Adaptability within a rapidly changing work environment.
Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and within tight time constraints is a must.
Self-motivated with the ability to identify, coordinate, and complete needed tasks on schedule without direct supervision.
Ability to work weekends or extended shifts as needed.

Temperatures range from 20° to 32° C
Repetitive use of hands, wrists and forearms
Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and operate sensors for extended periods
