Day-to-day stuff

• Looking after mums from pregnancy through to after the baby arrives
• Helping families understand what’s happening and what to expect
• Managing labour and delivery – keeping everyone safe
• Spotting problems early and knowing what to do
• Working with doctors and nurses as part of the healthcare team
• Keeping proper records of everything
• Making sure births are as positive and safe as possible

What you’ll need

• AHPRA registration (or you can get registered when you arrive)
• Your midwifery qualification sorted
• At least 4 years doing this work (ideally)
• Good at talking to people and putting them at ease
• Someone who works well in a team and puts patients first
• Can stay calm when things get hectic
