CFS Alert is the northernmost permanently inhabited settlement in the world. It is currently a military station located in Nunavut on the north-eastern tip of Ellesmere Island. The area features beautiful landscapes and a unique fauna which thrives all year long. CFS Alert is a true cold gem located in the Canadian Arctic that only a few get to see.

About the role

Nasittuq is looking for multiple technicians to join our operations team in CFS Alert, Nunavut. As a Bulk Fuel Technician, you are a motivated individual capable of adapting to changing priorities while working in a safe and efficient manner. Reporting to the Power Plant Supervisor, you will be:

  • Performing all POL tasks, inspections and tests on the POL tank farms including the pumps and lines
  • Inspecting, maintaining and repairing the bulk fuels system tanks and pipelines on a daily and weekly basis
  • Taking receipt of bulk fuel and ensure that the fuel is deposited in the appropriate storage facility
  • Performing fueling services with POL products for authorized aircraft, outlying building and miscellaneous storage tanks/units which includes the transfer of fuel from the tank farms to the day tank and portable tank
  • Assisting in de-fueling operations from aircraft wing tanks under direction of Flight Engineer
  • Responding to emergencies of POL system failures
  • Performing repairs on all fuel supply systems (restoration of services) as per industry standards
  • Accurately recording all work orders for the facilities, as well as records or normal and abnormal operating conditions and malfunctions along with corrective actions taken

What you will bring:

  • PM3 certification or equivalent certification in accordance with provincial/territorial regulations
  • 5+ years experience working with fuel

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for ENHANCED RELIABILITY security clearance and pass a pre-employment medical
  • As overnighting in Thule Greenland is a frequent requirement, must possess a valid passport
  • Ability to work cross-culturally and be a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required

What we offer:

The Bulk Fuel Technician role in Alert is Fly-In Fly-out. Our permanent positions are scheduled on 8×8 rotations (8 weeks on site, 8 weeks off site).

  • Salary rate: $44.10 – $46.43 per hour depending on qualifications and experience
  • An additional $3.50 Northern Living Allowance (NLA) per hour worked
  • 6% vacation pay in lieu of time off
  • Up to 6% pension benefits for permanent employees
  • Permanent positions receive medical, dental, disability and life insurance benefits
  • All travel expenses are paid by Nasittuq
  • Private accommodations and all meals are provided without cost while on site
  • Site includes recreational facilities, including gymnasium, work out equipment, woodworking shop, hobbies and clubs
