Role Responsibilities

The Edmonton District is looking to fill a number of temporary Associate Probation Officer position(s) located at the Edmonton Adult Attendance Centre. You will be part of the Mobile Monitoring Unit, and will be at the forefront of a new and innovative way to provide community supervision using technology! You will be working alongside other Associate Probation Officers to administer community corrections programming to individuals located throughout Alberta.

Under the direction of a Senior Probation Officer/Manager, you will be responsible for supervising pre-trial and low-risk sentenced clients. You will be responsible for administering community supervision, including completing referrals and liaising with law enforcement and community-based agencies.

Using your excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), you will conduct interviews and investigations, and prepare reports. You will utilize technological solutions, including the RePath application in accordance with policy to ensure maximum casework efficiencies are met while carrying a demanding caseload. As the majority of your work with clients will be done virtually through RePath or other technological means, face to face contact with clients will not be part of your daily routine.

This position requires that you possess superior time management and technical skills to effectively complete case management and prioritize competing workload pressures. You will have demonstrated the ability to gather, analyze, interpret and process information for investigative reports and casework processes. Goal-oriented thinking, creative problem-solving skills, agility, and a drive for results are also imperative for this role.

Qualifications

A two-year diploma in a related field (Correctional Services, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Social Sciences, or Child and Youth Care Counselling). Equivalencies will be considered.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and Outlook is required. Awareness of Indigenous culture and cultural diversity, and awareness of various community agencies and programming to assist clients would be considered an asset. Familiarity with legislation such as the Criminal Code of Canada, Corrections Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and general knowledge of Court of Queen’s Bench and Provincial Court Criminal processes is also considered an asset.

These are temporary positions up to 2 years. Hours of work are 36.25 hours per week.
