We are looking for a Business Partner, Health, Safety & Security (HS&S) to lead these critical business aspects at our operational Iron Ore Company (IOC). As a key member of the operational leadership team, the successful individual will collaborate with their peers both within IOC, across Rio Tinto (RT) and work closely with the IOC’s Chief Operating Officer to support the Safe Production journey (SPS). Reporting directly to the GM HSE of the Minerals Product Group you will be accountable for managing and implementing HS&S initiatives and programs.

This role provides an opportunity to be a leading and influencing member (changing agent) for HS&S of the employees and contractors at IOC as well as:

  • An experienced people leader with a focus on caring and collaborative behaviors, able to build and support an organizational culture change where HS&S is at the core of business decisions;
  • Managing the HS&S function for the business, determine priorities, allocate resources and deliver first line assurance;
  • Translating the RT HSESC business strategies, objectives and context into a HS&S implementation plan for IOC;
  • Implementing key processes like the Safety Maturity Model (SMM) for a balanced approach to HS&S risks and safety culture including the ability to influence leadership the broader team to improve HS&S performance at IOC;
  • Identifying proactively threats and opportunities to business objectives based on trends derived from data, conversations and observations;
  • Collaborating in HS&S with site leadership, employees, contractors, government and community stakeholders.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree/ diploma in Health & Safety discipline or other significant relevant combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum 10 years of industrial health, safety and security or operational experience;
  • Recognized as an influential people leader with passion in HS&S, able to coach, mentor and develop teams;
  • Proven track record in HS&S performance;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels;
  • Recognized as leading changing agent.
