We’re looking for culinary students and aspiring chefs who want to come train in the U.S. through our J-1 exchange program. You’ll be working at a really nice hotel that’s connected to Mall of America—it’s huge, and people from all over the world visit every day.

Minneapolis is a great city with plenty to do when you’re not working: catch a Twins or Vikings game, check out the music scene, explore cool neighborhoods, or just enjoy everything the city has to offer.

Here’s the deal

American Journey Cultural Exchange (we go by AJ1) has been doing this for over 25 years. We’ll sponsor your visa and help you get set up.

The Program

• You’ll make $2,400 to $2,700 a month (that’s $14-$16 an hour, 40 hours a week)
• Free meal every time you work
• They provide your uniform and wash it for you
• First two weeks are on us—free hotel stay while you get settled. After that, we’ll point you toward places to rent (just FYI, you’ll need money for deposits and monthly rent)
• Real kitchen experience in a busy environment with international guests

What you’ll actually be doing

• Prepping food and cooking at different stations
• Learning proper food safety and how to use professional equipment
• Getting better at plating dishes and staying organized when things get hectic
• Working with experienced chefs who can teach you about running a kitchen

Who we’re looking for

• Culinary or hospitality students (or recent grads) from schools outside the U.S., or people who already have kitchen experience
• Must qualify for a J-1 visa
• Can speak, read, and write English well enough to communicate
• Okay with taking a drug test when you arrive
