The Opportunity

As an experienced and ambitious academic, you will contribute to the research and teaching in the School of Education. Operating in a key curriculum area, you will lead either the Master of Teaching or Bachelor of Education (Primary); one of our core Initial Teacher Education courses. To ensure this program is at the forefront of national and international best-practice, you will utilise data to make evidence-based decisions and develop forward thinking strategies. In the first 12-months, one of these positions will also take on leadership of the ITE programs as the Associate Head, Initial Teacher Education.

Working in collaboration with colleagues, partners and stakeholders you will take the lead in the ongoing development of the Master of Teaching or Bachelor of Education (Primary) in Tasmania. Alongside the Associate Head Learning, Teaching and Performance and other Program Directors, you will deliver expertise in the preparation and submission of quality assurance practices and documentation including AITSL accreditation, annual reporting to our Tasmanian Teacher Registration Board and internal UTAS processes. You will also be an active scholar and researcher in initial teacher education or a cognate area with an evidenced history of high-quality outputs and successful funding.

What’s Required

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • A substantial record in, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved international recognition and made innovative, and sustained contributions to the field of initial teacher education, demonstrated by a very strong record of high-quality publications, presentations at conferences and success in securing external competitive and other funding.
  • Proven ability as an academic leader, preferably within initial teacher education, with a record in team building and creating effective working relationships, and capacity to foster excellence in research and teaching.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated achievement in University-level teaching and learning.
  • A demonstrated capacity to build and maintain effective and productive links and partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally with the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community.
  • A substantial record of successful research higher degree student supervision and completions.
