Reporting to the Chair, Community and Distance Learning Programs, the incumbent will be responsible for supervising community Adult Educators, Instructors and managing all aspects of educational programming in the community Learning Centers of Kivalliq Region: Arviat, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Coral Harbour, Naujaat, Rankin Inlet & Whale Cove. Programs may include academic, literacy, trades as well as certificate and diploma programs. The incumbent will ensure that the Kivalliq region is realizing Nunavut Arctic College’s commitment to the provision of community-based programs and the Government of Nunavut’s vision of continuous learning and the best practices in the field of adult learning and teaching.

The Coordinator, Community Programs – Kivalliq will manage all contract and base funded programming and will work with a variety of strategic partners and faculty to meet the training needs of adult learners in the seven Kivalliq communities. This will involve planning programs, managing budgets, determining resources and arranging and mentoring staff. The incumbent will act as an educational advocate and resources for adult and community-based methods to identify develop and deliver appropriate courses and programs. This will involve collaborative efforts within the division and with other governmental and public sector representatives including community groups and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have successfully completed a Bachelor of Education degree, with Adult Education concentration or a Bachelor of Arts degree in Educational Administration (post-secondary), post-graduate diploma in adult education or community development. Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of community-based education. 2 years of experience in a leadership role involving supervising staff and program development is required. The ability for the incumbent to speak, read or write in one of the Inuit languages would be a definite asset as well as having cross cultural experience, preferably in in the North.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
