Dairy Farm Manager Job Details:

Fox Dairies Pty Ltd started farming in 1990 and is a major supplier of fresh milk market supplying enough milk for 90,000 consumers per day. In addition to milk production, premium lean meat is produced for international and local markets. To enable this production, we have a business activity that grows and coordinates the delivery of 18000 tonnes of feed per annum. The business switched to dairy in 2010 and has since quadrupled in size, increasing from 1 farm to 3 irrigated dairy farms plus another farm for growing out the replacement young stock. In this same period milk production has grown exponentially

Within the senior management, there is a depth of best practice production systems and personnel experience, which we encourage people to draw on through regular meetings and open communications between the three farms. Our business uses proven industry best management practice to achieve results, and we strive to develop world class leaders in their field. This position is all about giving people confidence to make decisions and to work autonomously. Your accountability will be towards the small team you work with, as the owner does not live on the farm.

The Position

  • Full time permanent – reporting to the Operations Manager
  • Flexible roster that promotes good work/life balance.
  • Salary range $70,000.00 to $95,000.00 plus 11% super

Though the owner does not work on the farm, on a daily basis he is approachable and very hands on at management level. With 20 years business experience employing up to 35 people at one time in agriculture related enterprises, delegation has been a big part of our success.

  • Milk harvesting
  • Herd health including mastitis control, treatments and record keeping
  • Supporting all activities relating to the breeding program
  • General maintenance of plant and cleanliness in dairy
  • Ensuring all documented operating procedures are followed
  • Other broad general farm duties such as irrigation, feeding out, fencing etc
  • Administration

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in agricultural and/or animal husbandry related qualification. Alternatively, a minimum 5-years dairy herd management experience or skills that could be adapted to this role.
  • Minimum 2 years post qualification relevant work experience;
  • Have a “can-do” attitude and demonstrate skills with working in small teams
  • Have a holistic approach to animal health
  • Demonstrate a degree of practical hands-on aptitude
  • Be willing to go the extra mile rather than expecting the status quo

Salary range: $70,000.00 to $95,000.00 plus 11% super
