The role is located in Houston, Texas, and we are a hybrid organization with the option to work remotely on Mondays & Fridays.

Position Description:

The Fund Development Associate, Corporate Giving & Sponsorship is a valued member of the Development Team as it contributes to the agency’s fiscal health and deepens trust and confidence from the community. The successful candidate is an experienced and competent fundraiser, storyteller, and is successful at cultivating donor and funder relationships, plus has the skills necessary-computer acumen, experience with metrics, deadline- driven, intellectual flexibility, research capabilities.

This position works as part of a team and with a broad spectrum of programs and staff and assists in fund development team events. The ideal candidate is a professional contributor to fundraising who takes initiative, will have a passion to share Avenue’s mission, has Salesforce or other CRM software experience and is tech-savvy and detail-oriented. This role also requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising with a proven record of being awarded multiple grants in excess of $50k.

Highlighted Essential Functions

Fundraising (60%)

  • Cultivate new relationships and steward current corporate partners, banks, donors and sponsors with a focus on strong and enduring relationships
  • Develop and maintain strategic, high-level relationships with corporate and corporate foundation partners and prospects in collaboration with VP of Fund Development and the development team
  • Continually research and identify corporate prospects in multiple sectors that align with our priorities, values and programs to maintain a robust and diverse prospect and grant pipeline; partner with and provide support to Avenue and its programs across all areas regarding prospect opportunities
  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations for prospective corporate partners that connect their social impact and business objectives with Avenue’s mission and strategic initiatives

Grants Management (15%)

  • Enter and/or update grant information into Salesforce database
  • Will assist VP of Fund Development, as needed, with development communications
  • Create and maintain calendar to ensure timely grant submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines and reports
  • Ensure compliance with the grant agreements, including preparation and timely submission of grant reports, development and adjustment of associated budgets, coordination of budgeted funds, and submitting requests or invoices for reimbursable grants

Special Projects/Fundraising (10%)

  • Provide assistance with communications, fundraising appeals and other writing needs when requested
  • Maintain, record and track information regarding past, current, and prospective grants
  • Other special special projects and duties as needed

Events Participation & Administrative Tasks Management (15%)

  • Serves as a team member of the development team’s events including but not limited to groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, donor cultivation and recognition, and our annual event, Art on the Avenue
  • Provide special reports and/or collaterals as needed for funders, the board members, and Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
  • and other duties as assigned

What we are Looking for:

  • Friendly, outgoing, persuasive, and takes initiatives to make connections and talk with individuals
  • Demonstrated experience with sponsorship decks, communications and social media
  • Exceptional interpersonal, relationship-building, written, and verbal communication skills with diverse stakeholders, including funders, organizational leaders, and team members at all levels of the organization
  • Familiarity with CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) preferred, not required
  • Familiarity with the affordable housing/community development sector preferred, not required
  • Self-starter who works well autonomously/independently and as a member of a highly collaborative team
  • Demonstrated success as a strong team member, willing to support other team members as needed
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, able to plan workflow and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, project management skills
  • Strong computer/technology/database skills, experience in donor base CRM-Salesforce experience preferred; advanced Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Able to connect with Avenue’s work and mission
  • Strong understanding of evaluation metrics and outcomes measurement preferred


  • Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising and securing sponsorships
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising with a proven record of being awarded multiple grants in excess of $50k
  • Must have reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license


  • Non-profit experience a plus
  • Salesforce or other CRM Donor Database and Marketing experience a plus
