Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.
SCOPE:
The Labourer assists in day-to-day requirements at the NWS sites. Immediate openings available!
Incumbents must be comfortable working in colder, extreme arctic climates. All travel to/from site, including board and meals, is provided.
Please note: This position is reserved for Inuit Land Claim Beneficiary candidates.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support for any general site maintenance
- Loading and unloading of cargo, materials, supplies and equipment
- Painting
- Shoveling, snow removal
- Fueling vehicles, running errands, processing deliveries
- Assisting trades and other site colleagues
- Site safety and emergency response
- First aid if and when required
- Perform other related tasks that are unplanned or transient in nature
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver’s license (An asset, not required)
- Knowledge of basic safety measures is an asset; able to work safely at all times
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment
- Ability to perform physical job functions in all weather conditions (able to lift up to 50 lbs)
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude is an asset
- Basic computer skills are an asset
- Willingness to learn and participate in training
COMPETENCIES / SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt to changing tasks and travel as part of a small team to adjacent work locations
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as required
- Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse weather conditions in remote Arctic locations
- Position is reserved for Inuit Land Claim Beneficiaries
Further Details:
- Rotational 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off available – 48 hours per week Monday to Saturday where you fly to an LRR for 6 weeks, board and meals included; then you are off for 6 weeks – these rotations may be shortened for Inuit candidates based on individual needs; or for anyone living in the community, there may be community based positions available at 40 hours per week Monday to Friday with no need to fly out of the community
