The Opportunity

Through a diverse range of high-quality programming, Banff Centre Mountain Film & Book Festival along with the Mountain Culture department seeks to enhance public understanding and appreciation of mountain environments and mountain culture. Banff Centre Mountain Film & Book Festival and the associated World Tour programming reaches hundreds of thousands of people around the globe each year. It also contributes to Banff Centre by enhancing its global profile, providing revenue, reaching clientele for future programs, and contributes to other activities which further Banff Centre’s mandate.

The Manager of Strategic Partnerships is integral to both the success of Banff Centre Mountain Film & Book Festival, the World tour and year round programming, and to reaching Banff Centre’s revenue targets, playing a strategic leadership role in the Development Office from a fundraising revenue standpoint and managing relationships through cultivation and stewardship of stakeholders, and providing overall expertise within Development’s sponsorship program.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, Development, below are some key responsibilities:

Financial / Contractual

  • Working collaboratively with the Director of Operations, Grants and Awards, and the Development team, the Manager of Strategic Partnerships:
  • Manages a budget including revenues and expenditures with targets and parameters being reviewed and agreed annually.
  • Prepares initial draft of budget area for annual budget development within parameters set, which is then approved or adjusted in line with overall Banff Centre budget process.
  • Oversees handling of all day-to-day budget administration and management within budget area
  • Oversees accurate completion of monthly financial reconciliations for budget area.
  • Ensures contracts are in place for sponsor and other relevant stakeholders as it relates to revenue and other commitments.

Contacts

  • Maintains regular and extensive verbal and written communication with sponsor, donor and agency representatives involving strategy, information exchange, stewardship. and negotiation of contractual obligations, work methods and procedures.
  • Ensures a good record and file management process is in place, recording and filing all material contact within relevant databases and filing systems.
  • Maintains extensive internal communication with the Mountain Culture and Events & Public Engagement team, Development team and professional staff of other departments in execution and delivery of responsibilities.
  • Keeps up to date and complete records in Raisers Edge including filing contact notes for prospect and sponsor interactions.

Program: Sponsorship, Partner and Donor Relations

  • Develops overall yearly and multi-year plans and a critical path for each sponsor, agency and donor as well as an overall project/relationship management schedule and program; ensures timely follow-up and revision of schedules as required and approved.
  • Develops and implements on-going program elements for each sponsor, agency and donor based on complete understanding of each contract and strong relationship management practices.
  • Develops contracts and reviews with sponsors, funders and legal firm (as applicable) for internal approval and signing.
  • Writes or otherwise develops and presents customized proposals as required and arranges and participates in meetings with Banff Centre colleagues to strategize and discuss sponsorship and fundraising opportunities and tactics.
  • Ensures delivery of obligations to and strong relationship management of sponsors, agencies and donors including regular correspondence, promotional materials, hospitality, and all items listed in relevant agreements.
  • Prepares and delivers a superior hospitality package / weekend to sponsors during the Festival.
  • Initiates, manages and executes special projects and events for sponsors as needed.
  • Prepares and promotes strategic partnerships through Banff Centre written and electronic material.
  • Seeks out new partnerships, grows existing partnerships and maintains a high level of partner relations for multi-year agreements.

Program: Special Projects

  • Coordinates and ensures implementation of special projects associated with the development strategy and Mountain Culture team as required
  • Provides valuable input in day-to-day operations
  • Provides valuable input in strategic planning for the Development office and the Festival
  • Plays a valuable role in fulfilling the overall objectives of the Festival and Development office
  • Shares information and opportunities with colleagues on the Mountain Culture team, Events & Public Engagement, Development and across Banff Centre.

Employment Terms and

  • In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, fulltime position, subject to a 6 month probationary period.
