Mixed Crop Farm Hand Job Details:

Chilwell is a family-owned, mixed cropping and livestock farm located 100kms east of Esperance, in WA. Our business is specialised in the production of wool, canola, wheat, barley and lupins, as well as beef and lamb, with operations extending over 50,000 ha of land.

About the Role

As a result of our ongoing operations, we are currently seeking the support of a Mixed Crop Farm Hand for an immediate start.

This position is full-time, working 54 hours a week (guaranteed), plus reasonable additional hours from Esperance WA.

Salary Package: A$90,000 per annum (plus super) in guaranteed earnings + additional benefits in the value of A$13,000 per annum to cover expenses such as accommodation and utilities bills (ie. additional guaranteed allowances).

Main Tasks

As a full-time Mixed Crop Farm Hand, you will be primarily responsible for planning, organising, controlling, coordinating and performing crop farming operations.

The role and duties attributed to your position will change slightly over the course of your proposed employment, depending on the stage of our cropping/farming cycle.

Notwithstanding, main tasks include, but are not limited to:

– Operating the sprayers during preseeding knockdowns, in crop spraying and crop topping.

– Carrying out the safe operation of plant and equipment ensuring the longevity of the machinery whilst attaining maximum productivity of the work they complete.

– Driving other machinery involved in seeding, spraying and harvesting operations.

– Delivering/carrying grain, lime and collecting fertilisers on farm.

– Planning and coordinating the production of crops throughout the season (including the production and marketing of crops.

– Mixing chemical compounds in accordance with recommendations from our agronomists.

– Helping with agronomy, learning to identify weeds. Understanding the chemicals which are being sprayed out and what weeds, pests and diseases they are targeting.

– Carrying out general farming activities (including fertilising, and pest and weed control)

Hiring Criteria

In order to be successful, you must possess:

– Sound reading, writing and arithmetic skills.

– Strong administration skills – organised, thorough, systems-orientated with attention to detail.

– Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective interaction with other staff.

– Understanding of cropping processes, agronomy and operation of machinery involved in the cropping system and a desire to continue to learn on the job.

– MC Truck licence.

– Chemical handling experience – Auschem training.

– High level Mechanical skills.

– Broad acre cropping systems experience – 3 years (Required).
