Open Pit Drill and Blast Engineer (Fly-In Fly-Out) Job Details:

Reporting to the Open Pit Engineering Coordinator, you will be part of the Engineering Department. You will be responsible for open pit drilling & blasting designs and adherence to best engineering practices related to open pit mining. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Develop, support, and communicate all required reporting related to Open Pit Drilling and blasting, such as: Monthly Drill and Blast reports, Blast Optimization Project initiatives, and all drill and blast related KPIs (powder factor, drilling factor, blast fragmentation, vibration, etc);
  • Responsible for the annual explosives order and explosives dispatching to the various site magazines;
  • Developing, controlling, and archiving all drill and blast deliverables;
  • Verify and approve drilling, blasting, and tie-in connection plans completed by the Mine Technician;
  • Obtain verification and approval from the Open Pit Production Engineer for all plans created in support of the weekly mine plan;
  • Owner of the site Drill and Blast specifications, responsible to update annually and as required;
  • Promote Health and Safety by participating and hosting the monthly Departmental H&S meeting.

Qualifications

  • College Diploma in Mine Engineering/Technology or higher;
  • 4 years’ experience in the mining industry;
  • Eligibility for NAPEG professional status is considered an asset;
  • Previous experience in drill & blast will be highly regarded, particularly in gold mining;
  • Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, AutoCAD and mine design/planning software;
  • Knowledge of the Deswik and viewshot software is considered an asset;
  • Experience working with seismographs and analyzing seismic data.

Note that the official working language at Meadowbank Complex is English.

Your Work Schedule:

  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest;
  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
