Research Assistant II – Comprehensive Mouse & Cancer Core Job Details:

Expected Starting Salary Range: 18.83 – 22.95

SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION:

The Comprehensive Rodent and Radiation Facility within the Division of Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology at Cincinnati Children’s is a Shared Facility that offers a number of services for researchers exploring cancer systems through animal models. We provide animals from specific inbred mouse strains primarily used in cancer and hematopoietic research, offer cell transplant, harvest and irradiation services and can handle animal cancer model systems involving xenotransplant procedures.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

·Perform animal experiments and record data

Perform a wide range of procedures, following approved IACUC protocols. Perform mouse procedures such as injections including tail vein, intra-peritoneal, sub-Q , retro-orbital and intra-femoral. Bleeding of animals. Maintain animal husbandry and accurate records of animal husbandry.

Lab Administration

Assists in daily operation of the Shared Facility including answering the phone, responding to emails when inquiries are made, scheduling, maintaining supplies and organization. Provides appropriate safety monitoring checks (biosafety, IACUC animal protocols)

Serve as a Resource

Demonstrate competence in specific knowledge, skills and behaviors. Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience and skills. Stay abreast of changes in key techniques. Serve as a resource to the department in specific areas.

Customer Service

Maintain a strong working relationship with clients and colleagues. Respond to requests quickly and effectively. Identify and understand customer needs and expectations. Communicate any relevant information to clients and colleagues. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. or equivalent combination of education and experience

·May require an Associate degree, vocational training, apprenticeships or equivalent
