We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Senior Farm Hand to join our team.
As a Senior Farm Hand, you will play a crucial role in supporting our agricultural operations and ensuring the success of our farming activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day farm operations, including crop cultivation, irrigation, pest control, and livestock management.
  • Supervise a team of farm hands, providing guidance and training to ensure efficient and effective work practices.
  • Monitor crop health and implement appropriate measures to optimize yield and quality.
  • Maintain farm equipment, ensuring proper functionality through regular inspection and maintenance.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of planting schedules, harvests, and other farming activities.
  • Collaborate with agronomists to implement sustainable farming practices that align with industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment for all staff.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in agricultural or farming operations, preferably in Western Australia.
  • Strong knowledge of crop cultivation techniques, livestock management, irrigation systems, and pest control methods.
  • Ability to operate farm machinery effectively and perform routine maintenance tasks as needed.- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team towards achieving common goals.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address any challenges or issues that may arise on the farm.
  • Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.- A genuine passion for agriculture and a commitment to sustainable farming practices.

As our Senior Farm Hand, you will:

  • Provide practical knowledge and skills in animal husbandry using low stress stock handling techniques to muster and move cattle. Draft and process cattle through yards, implement vaccination scheduled treatments. The administration of veterinary prescribed medical treatments and assist in blood sampling procedures.
  • Assist with delivery of operational plans for land preparation for pasture improvement, sustainable animal reproduction, animal nutrition, with a high focus on animal welfare.
  • Undertake property maintenance including water and fencing infrastructure, bores, pumps, solar equipment, fencing, electric fencing and cattle yard maintenance and cleaning.
  • Assist with biosecurity practices to ensure the disease-free status of the Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) herd is maintained, including purchase of replacement heifers, disposal of culls and re-location of animals for vaccine production and research in accordance with TFC, animal health, animal welfare, and livestock financial management requirements.
  • Operate machinery and equipment, including tractors and feed out wagons, ATV’s and four wheel drive Utes when feeding out supplement and fodder. Applying chemical for weed control, safely within the guidelines of SOP’s. Conduct servicing, cleaning, and calibration of plant and equipment including chemical, fertilizer and tillage equipment.
  • Work independently and with other staff, following instructions from Farm Manager to successfully complete tasks to support Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) herd.
  • Demonstrate initiative and responsibility by completing allocated tasks and activities to a high standard.
  • Communicates openly and effectively with supervisor, colleagues and other staff both orally and written. Possess good computer skills to maintain accurate animal records to standards required by Quality Assurance guidelines of the Tick Fever Centre.
  • Complies with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and reports any unsafe practices, procedures and equipment to Supervisor.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Commitment to obtain vaccination or evidence of prior vaccination to Q fever will be required prior to starting with Biosecurity Queensland.
  • A current C Class driver’s licence.
  • Previous experience working with large animals.
