Reporting to the Manager, Budgets, the Senior Financial Analyst is accountable for detailed financial analysis and provides budgetary, accounting and program support to various divisions of the departments operating budget. The Senior Financial Analyst is accountable for verifying the department’s financial position to facilitate sound decision making. This position provides a pivotal role in the Business Planning processes and this includes the annual budget development cycle, annual unfunded pressures, and supplementary funding requests.

This position supports the Department of Community and Government Services mandate through the regular provision of detailed financial analysis, planning and reporting aimed at ensuring appropriate use of the limited. The Senior Financial Analyst provides information to the Director, Financial Services and Departmental Senior Management. The incumbent works closely with the Financial Management Board and other Finance and Administration staff in headquarters and in the regions.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized undergraduate degree in Business Administration/Commerce, Finance/Accounting or related field, along with two (2) years related budgeting, accounting and financial management experience. The completion of a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
