Job: Herdsperson Farm 57101
Work location: US-NC-BLADENBORO Your opportunity:
Herders assist other herd technicians in daily animal care and general farm tasks to ensure the welfare/well-being of animals. Tasks include farm hygiene, animal removal, and animal movement. Employees can follow the instructions to operate lawn mowers, tractors, trucks, buses, and other farm equipment. May be receiving training for the title of Senior Herd Technician. The herder position will also be responsible for taking care of all animals in the designated workplace, especially their health, growth, and reproduction.
Core responsibilities:

• Feed, drink, vaccinate and perform general animal husbandry tasks, including basic veterinary procedures.
• Be flexible and willing to change the plan according to the direction of the farm leader.
• Assist in moving animals and maintain effective animal movement.
• Use high-pressure equipment to disinfect and clean multiple areas of the farm.
• Handling piglets, including injection of drugs, castration, tail docking, and ear picking.
• Maintain accurate product information and update all department records as needed.
• According to need, various drugs are used to treat sick animals by injection, oral administration, and/or other methods.
• Follow standard operating procedures, production manuals, or appropriate training guidelines as needed.
• Assist in the maintenance of facilities and equipment.
• Assist in the maintenance of the barn, office cleaning, and laundry work.
• Follow the company’s animal welfare policies and procedures, including providing a physical environment that meets the needs of animals, providing sufficient water and high-quality feed, humane treatment of animals, identification and proper treatment of animals in need of medical care, and following euthanasia guidelines.
• Responsible for complying with all environmental, safety, and biosafety laws and procedures.

qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• The previous livestock handling was very helpful.
• Able to engage in hard physical labor.
• A firm commitment to teamwork.
• Willing to shower in and out of the facility every day.
• Able to follow instructions and handle standardization situations.
• Must be able to work an average of 48 hours per week, which may change frequently.
• Work on weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.
• Emergency situations must be on call, including but not limited to power outages or staff shortages.
• Able to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• While establishing a strong working relationship and a positive working environment, he can remain respectful, approachable and team-oriented.

• Must be able to work with and around a wide range of antibiotics (i.e. penicillin).
• Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
