Description
Essential Functions:
- Develops and writes curriculum to be taught in professional development and in-service classes for police officers and recruits
- Instructs in-service and professional development classes to sworn and civilian personnel using adult learning methodologies
Examples of Duties
- Instructs and assists in skills-related training for police officers and recruits
- Plans, develops and evaluates literature, audiovisual materials and exhibits for use in training programs
- Evaluates training plans and curricula for effectiveness, recommends revisions to existing programs, and develops new programs
- Addresses training needs within the department, as required
- Assists guest instructors with instructional needs
- Assists other instructors with their classes as needed or as directed by an Advanced Training Section commander
- Observes and documents the performance of recruits and officers
- Provides counseling, coaching, mentoring, and remedial training of recruits and officers
- Monitors classroom equipment/supplies to ensure instructional suitability of the facility
- Maintains equipment and supplies, as well as facilities
- Assists other Training Division units as needed or as directed by the Training Division Major
- Performs related work
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of training experience in a law enforcement academy
Other Minimum Qualifications:
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or have any criminal action pending against them
- Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis
- Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening
- Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test
- Must possess KLEC certification or obtain with one year of hire
- Applicants who have bought, sold, or used marijuana within one year of application, or have bought, sold or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified
- Must not have retired, resigned, or separated from employment with a law enforcement agency under investigation or due to pending or final disciplinary actions
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
- Must be willing to participate in strenuous activity such as physical fitness training, defensive tactics, role playing exercises, etc
