About Nasittuq

We provide exemplary support services to the Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert, situated in the Canadian Arctic. Our highly skilled workforce provides services that include all elements of facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services, transport and logistical/administrative support to our customer, the Department of National Defense (DND).

Where you will be working

CFS Alert is the northernmost permanently inhabited settlement in the world. It is currently a military station located in Nunavut on the north-eastern tip of Ellesmere Island. The area features beautiful landscapes and a unique fauna which thrives all year long.

About the role:

The High Voltage Electrician role is a permanent, unionized, fly-In fly-out rotation position. The candidate must be comfortable working in colder climates, during an 8 week on, 8 week off rotation schedule. You work 26 weeks of the year on rotation and are home for 26 weeks of the year.

Reporting to the Building and Infrastructure Supervisor, you will be:

  • Repairing electrical systems and installs replacements; immediately responds to failures
  • Performing all preventative and recurring maintenance on various electrical systems
  • Maintaining the power distribution system, airfield lighting systems, constant current regulators and controls, approach lights, threshold lights on a 24/7 basis in coordination with the power plant to ensure it provides the services and satisfactory voltage levels range for the utilization of equipment
  • Conducting all inspections and tests of the electrical distribution systems and airfield electrical systems in accordance with the Preventative Maintenance (PM) plan and directions contained within manufacturer’s handbooks
  • The successful incumbent will required to be part of the Fire response team; training to NFPA 1081 standard will be fully provided

What you will bring:

  • Red Seal Certified Electrician in Canada, or hold a valid Industrial Electrician’s Journeyman Certificate for the territory of Nunavut trained in electrical systems up to 28 kilovolts
  • 3+ years experience in high voltage electrical work with experience in maintenance of re-closers and metering banks
  • Must have experience in constant current regulators and airfield lighting circuits, leveling and alignment of lights and equipment
  • Proficient computer skills using the Microsoft suite of products (Excel, Word, etc.)

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for ENHANCED RELIABILITY security clearance, and must pass a company pre-employment medical
  • As overnighting in Thule Greenland is a requirement, must possess a valid passport
  • Ability to work cross-culturally and a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required

  • Salary rate: $46.51 – $48.96 per hour depending on qualifications and experience
  • An additional $3.50 Northern Living Allowance (NLA) per hour worked
  • Hours of work are typically 40 hours per week with overtime on short notice
  • 6% vacation pay in lieu of time off
  • Up to 6% pension benefits for permanent employees
