Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Lecturer in Behavioural Science in Agriculture and Rural Development within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Behavioural Science in the Agribusiness & Rural Development Section of the UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science. This is a post in the Agribusiness & Rural Development Section of the UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science for a person with expertise in Behavioural Science in Agriculture. The appointee will join a team of 17 full-time academics within the Section who work in the subject areas of rural development, agricultural extension, knowledge exchange, agricultural economics, farm business, and humanitarian action. The Section delivers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Food & Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Extension & Innovation Support, Sustainable Agriculture & Rural Development, and Humanitarian Action.

The appointee will have expertise in behavioural science in agriculture with relevance to a wide range of the issues and actors in agricultural systems. These include an emphasis on the decision-making processes of farmers and farm households in key areas such as health & safety on farms, farm management practices, financial investments, biodiversity management on farms, and climate mitigation practices, with the impact of facilitating change towards more sustainable agriculture practices. They will be committed to developing this expertise through academic research and engagement with a cross section of public and private sector partners, to sharing this expertise through teaching undergraduate and graduate students and to developing their discipline in the School, University and wider community.

The successful post holder will co-ordinate and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research supervision and administration, and will complement the activities of the Section in interests and skills. They will co-ordinate the School of Agriculture & Food Science’s Professional Work Experience Programme which is underpinned by occupational health and safety principles. The successful applicant will conduct and lead research appropriate to the objectives of the Section, School and University.

Salary: 95 Lecturer/Asst Professor Above The Bar (7943) €59,370 – €94,015 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
