Position Summary
Right now, we are looking for an experienced and hard working individual who wants to join the Elements Casino Property team as Backstretch Maintenance Technician. As a member of our Property team you will be responsible for the property services in and around the racetrack and racing facilities; performing maintenance duties as required in a fast and efficient manner. This is a full time position that requires flexibility for scheduling including evenings, holidays, and weekend shifts.
Key Accountabilities
· Maintaining the racetrack surface, and operating of all equipment associated with track maintenance
· Conditioning the track in between races
· Assisting with minor repairs in the barn area to stalls, fences, etc
· Maintaining cleanliness of the barn area and works yard area
· Maintaining and checking of track lighting to ensure it is operational before night racing
· Performing inspections/readings of equipment, fire suppression systems, boilers etc
· Removing Pilons as needed for track work
· Change lights in barns as needed
· Perform seasonal landscape work, weed whacking, mowing etc
· Perform seasonal winter work including salting, snow removal etc
· Communicating effectively with team members and horseman at all levels
· Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications
· Previous maintenance experience required
· Previous experience in the horseracing industry, including knowledge of racetrack surfaces, considered an asset
· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
· Experience using machinery such as a loader, Bobcat and tractor, considered as asset
· Possess a high level of honesty and integrity
· WHMIS certification considered an asset
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
· The ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record check through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch-Racing Division (GPEB)
· Must be able to work well under pressure
· A good working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry and mechanics, considered an asset
· Ability to handle multiple tasks
· Experience or working knowledge of landscaping and snow removal considered and asset
Work Environment Considerations
- Standing for long periods of time, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stretching, bending, and non-traditional work hours
