The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is looking for a new member to join its team! As the Warehouse Supervisor, you ll be a part of the Warehouse Distribution Team within the Administrative Services Division s Procurement and Distribution Bureau. This team is responsible for the distribution of IDOT warehouse items throughout the state of Iowa.

What you will need:

  • Experience in warehouse/distribution center and inventory management including but not limited to: storage optimization; picking and packing; route analysis; shipping; receiving; loading efficiency and security; transportation, safety and driver coordination; data analytics; logistics; and supply chain management.
  • Ability to help select, learn, implement and teach others how to use the inventory management system as well as the DOT Legacy IDMS warehouse/inventory computer systems, Workday, Microsoft Office 365 and other dedicated Iowa DOT systems and numerous other computer software systems in addition to handheld readers and printers, etc.
  • Ability to work and communicate with internal and external customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to perform work related mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Passion for customer service

Here is what you will do:

This position is a supervisor role that will be actively involved with the warehouse team and their three team leads and will be responsible for the Iowa DOT s Central Distribution Center operations and logistics. There is a dedicated team of staff working in the receiving, distribution, and transportation areas. This position will work in very close collaboration with the Inventory Specialist and Procurement team as well as all customers statewide to ensure the most efficient and accurate delivery of goods. Applicants must be fluent in software applications such as Microsoft Office 365 and become familiar with the new Inventory management system. Additional software utilized in the position is Workday, the DOT Legacy IDMS Warehouse and other technology as required. You will train others and assign work to assist in accomplishing tasks, oversee cycle counts and annual inventory.

This position also operates electric pallet jacks, forklifts and various other material handling equipment. Other duties include unloading, breaking down, labeling, receipting for and storing freight using handheld barcode radios, scanners, labelers. Works outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to work in a high stress and fast paced work environment. Lifting: Performs heavy manual labor for extended periods of time including lifting, bending, pulling and reaching. Lifts /lowers, carries and push/pull items weighing up to 75 pounds; team lift or mechanical assist recommended for weights over 75 pounds.

Shift: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) and experience equal to four years of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; specialized technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations.

2) All of the following (a, b, and c):

a. Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent); and

b. One year of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations; and

c. A total of three years of education and full-time experience (as described in part b), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
